long this dark and forgone road,
Where daylight has faded and the nights are cold;
Where tears are shed and troubles never cease to end -
I find the smiling face of a friend.

When I go downhill and feel depressed,
Tired of living with all the strain and stress -
Tired of living in error or sin,
I reach out my hand to my smiling friend.

I thank God for the beauty nature have given
The golden sun and deep blue seas -
I thank God for living and for good health -
For poetry and little things.

I thank God for popcorn and candy too,
For yellow flowers and skies of blue.
And before my prayers at night come to an end -
I thank God for you, My Smiling Friend!
